Healthy Habit's annual Running and Strength Challenge 2020

What's the Challenge?

Run 3 or 5 km run every day for 10 consecutive days OR Do 30 or 50 burpees every day for 10 consecutive days. All members are strongly encouraged to participate in the challenge as it is achievable for all levels of fitness. It is, however, a challenge and it’s not always easy to run every single day or pop up and down for those burpees, and inevitability people drop off over the 10 days for various reasons, so, for those that managed to do the 10 days in a row a HUGE congratulations!

Why do the Challenge?

  • Challenges are designed to give you an opportunity to prove to yourself what you are capable of.

  • What you can achieve when you put your mind to it.

  • To give you confidence in your ability.

  • Boost your motivation.

What were the results?

Overwhelmingly, the feedback we had from the members who took part was that you really enjoyed it! Here are the reasons why:

  • It helped kick start your routine again.

  • It showed you that you CAN make time for yourself each day, even with your hectic lives.

  • You now enjoy running

  • Burpees are now not a dread.

To all that started the challenge and perhaps didn’t finish for various reasons –well done for getting through what you did - why not set yourself another challenge and see if you can get through the 10 days again : )

Members that Finished

Steel Park

3km k run - 100%

30 burpees – 66%

Sydney Park

5km run – 85%

3km run – 34% (!!!!!)

30 burpee – 54%

50 burpee – 100%

Queens Park/Centennial Park

5 k run –83%

3 k run – 20%

50 burpee – 0%

Looking at the stats it seems the harder the challenge the more likely people are to finish - perhaps we need to up it to 10k a day!!

Best Excuses.. !

  • “ I just decided to stop running, and sat down on a park bench!”

  • “I forgot!”

  • “ I was going to do it after lunch on Saturday, then I was going to do it after some drinks, then before I knew it, I was in the Oprea Bar and it was game over"

Lessons Learnt 1 - Plan when you are going to do it each day and stick to it! Don't delay it. 2 - Best time of day is first thing in the morning. 3 - Never drink before hand!

Well done again to everyone who took part, if you didn't manage to join in this year - don't worry the challenge will be back in 2021!
