Why Running in a Group Can Take You Further

Running might seem like a solo sport,  just you, your shoes and the open path. But if you’ve ever tried to start running on your own, you’ll know that motivation can fade, training can feel a little lonely, and it’s easy to fall off track. That’s where the magic of group running comes in.


In September, we're launching a 6 week 0 – 5km Beginners’ Run Group at Sydney Park. Whether you’ve never run before, or it’s been years since your last jog, this program is designed to help you start from scratch and steadily build up to 5km, with all the support, structure and encouragement you need.


Here’s why running with others is such a game changer:


1. Accountability that actually works

It’s a lot harder to hit snooze when you know people are waiting for you. A group setting helps you commit to showing up, even on those days when motivation is low. Over six weeks, that consistency builds your fitness, confidence and endurance far more effectively than sporadic solo runs.

2. Professional guidance without the guesswork

When you’re new to running, it’s easy to push too hard too soon or not hard enough. With a structured program led by a coach, you’ll know exactly what to do, when to rest, and how to progress safely from walking to running. No random internet plans, no confusion.

3. Shared energy and motivation

There’s something powerful about moving with a group. You feed off each other’s energy, celebrate the small wins together, and encourage one another when the going gets tough. You might even find yourself running a little further or faster than you thought possible.

4. A safe and welcoming environment

Running can feel intimidating if you’re starting from zero, but in a group of beginners, you’re all on the journey together. No judgement, no pressure, just a friendly space to improve at your own pace.

Yes, running can be fun. When you’re chatting between intervals, celebrating milestones and laughing through the hard bits, the kilometres pass surprisingly quickly.

Starts Monday 8 September at Sydney Park.


  • Mondays 6:30am

  • All fitness levels welcome (especially beginners!)

  • Structured sessions to progress you from walking to running 5km
